Welcome to the Online Graduate Certificate in Public Health

This 15-credit Graduate Certificate in Public Health is an exciting way to build a foundation in public health, expand your job opportunities, or enhance your current degree program. This online certificate program is specifically designed for the working professional that wants to increase their knowledge of public health, but cannot come to a university campus for courses. All of which may be applied toward an online Master of Public Health degree at the University of Florida’s College of Public Health and Health Professions. This program is ideal for:

  • Health professionals, such as physicians, nurses, nutritionists, and veterinarians, who work in public health and would like to increase their expertise and develop confidence in their knowledge of these issues
  • Health professionals who wish to move into career positions in public health
  • Those interested in pursuing an MPH degree, but want to get a head start often find the certificate program a good first step

The content of the online Graduate Certificate in Public Health is a program comprised of five (5) Public Health graduate level courses from the online MPH program. The program is conducted completely online via the UF eLearning course management system Sakai.  There are no campus visits required.   All five courses are offered within one calendar year so that participants can complete their coursework in a fairly short period of time, or take up to 3 years to complete. The online program is offered in the five versions listed below.

Now offering a Graduate Certificate in Public Health with a special emphasis in one of the seven following areas. For more information about these certificates click on the link after each certificate below for a list of the curriculum.


Applicants must have earned a bachelor’s degree, in any major, from an accredited academic institution. International students must provide translated, certified transcripts and diplomas showing equivalency to the U.S. bachelor’s degree.

Credits cannot be transferred into the certificate program from other schools.

Completing the Graduate Certificate

The University of Florida Graduate School will issue a Graduate Certificate to students who complete this program and note the student’s transcript with this award.  Students must complete the certificate program under these guidelines:

  • Students must compete 5 certificate courses in the UF College of Public Health and Health Professions
  • Students must complete all courses with a C or better
  • Students must complete the program with a 3.0 GPA or better
  • Students must pass an open-book final exam demonstrating understanding of the 10 Essential Public Health Services

Note to student wishing to enter the MPH program: Upon acceptance into the UF MPH program, only courses with a B or better may be transferred into the MPH program for credits toward this degree.
